Sometimes, the best travel experiences come from unexpected changes in plans. This is exactly the case with my upcoming visit to Brussels. Initially, I had planned to hire a car in Brussels and drop it off in Paris. However, it turns out that returning the car in the same country is significantly cheaper. So, I’ve decided to embrace this serendipity and make the most of my extra time in Brussels.
I am thrilled about the unexpected chance to explore the heart of Brussels, beginning with the iconic Grand Place. The Grand Place is renowned for its stunning architecture and lively atmosphere. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is sure to be visually captivating. I am excited to stroll through this historic square, admiring the grandeur of the Town Hall and the beautiful guildhalls that encircle it.
I will start by strolling through the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, a beautifully designed shopping arcade that exudes old-world charm. This elegant passageway, with its glass roof and ornate facades, is the perfect spot to window-shop and perhaps indulge in some Belgian chocolates. My walk through the Galeries will lead me to the Cathedrale des Saints Michel et Gudule, a magnificent Gothic cathedral. I’m looking forward to exploring its impressive interior and learning more about its rich history.
One of the options I’m considering is visiting La Bourse, the Brussels Stock Exchange building, which stands as a testament to the city’s economic history. Pairing this with a return to the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert seems like a delightful way to spend my time.
This unexpected detour to Brussels is turning out to be a fantastic adventure. I’m looking forward to exploring the city’s historic sites, indulging in its culinary delights, and immersing myself in its vibrant culture. What began as a logistical change has become an exciting opportunity to experience more of what Brussels has to offer.
