Amalfi Dreaming: Sun, Vespas, and Coastal Adventures Await in Sorrento

    by Bronwyn 6 July 2024
    written by Bronwyn

As my trip to Sorrento approaches, I find myself growing more and more excited every day. It will be my first time visiting this beautiful town, and I just can’t wait. Sorrento will be my home base as I explore the stunning Amalfi Coast, including the famous Positano. The idea of renting a Vespa to cruise along the winding coastal roads, basking in the sun and taking in the breathtaking views, fills me with joy.

I envision beginning my days at Marina Grande, the delightful fishing village that has transformed into a bustling marina. The colourful boats gently swaying on the water and the scent of freshly caught seafood drifting through the air will create the ideal setting for my morning coffee. As I walk along the waterfront, I will immerse myself in the essence of Sorrento’s maritime legacy and possibly engage in conversation with some of the local fishermen.

Next on my list is the historic centre of Sorrento. I am excited about strolling through the narrow, cobbled streets lined with quaint shops and cafes. The mix of historic architecture and vibrant local life will be a treat for the senses. I will definitely stop by Piazza Tasso, the heart of the town, to people-watch and soak in the lively atmosphere. The piazza, named after the famous Italian poet Torquato Tasso, is surrounded by elegant buildings and filled with the hum of everyday life.

One of the activities I’m most looking forward to is renting a Vespa to explore the Amalfi Coast. There’s something undeniably romantic about riding a Vespa along the coast, feeling the wind in my hair and the sun on my face. I’ll travel along the famous coastal road, discovering hidden coves and stopping at scenic viewpoints to capture the stunning vistas. Positano, with its pastel-colored houses cascading down the cliffside, is a must-see. I plan to take my time exploring its charming streets and enjoy a leisurely lunch with a view of the sparkling sea.

In the evening, I will return to Sorrento to unwind. Perhaps I will find a cozy spot in a local trattoria to savor some authentic Italian cuisine. The flavors of Sorrento, from fresh seafood to tangy limoncello, will be the perfect end to each day’s adventures. Sitting in a piazza, sipping wine, and watching the sunset over the bay, I will feel truly immersed in the Italian way of life.

This trip to Sorrento promises to be a delightful blend of relaxation and adventure. From exploring the historic center to riding along the Amalfi Coast, every moment will be a chance to soak in the beauty and culture of this enchanting region. I can’t wait to share my experiences and bring back memories that will last a lifetime.

“I've come to believe that there exists in the universe something I call "The Physics of The Quest" — a force of nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity or momentum. And the rule of Quest Physics maybe goes like this: "If you are brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting (which can be anything from your house to your bitter old resentments) and set out on a truth-seeking journey (either externally or internally), and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue, and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher, and if you are prepared – most of all – to face (and forgive) some very difficult realities about yourself... then truth will not be withheld from you." Or so I've come to believe.”
