I can hardly contain my excitement as I prepare for my once-in-a-lifetime journey with Qatar Airways, recently awarded the world’s best airline and best in business class travel. While I look forward to visiting Scotland, England, France, Belgium and Italy, the anticipation of the unique and exquisite dining experiences that await me on board is a significant highlight of this trip.
From the moment I step into the airport, the adventure begins. As a business class passenger, I have the luxury of choosing between the Qantas Business Lounge and the Air New Zealand Lounge in Sydney. Both lounges offer an excellent way to start my travel experience. However, the Air New Zealand Lounge stands out for its relaxed atmosphere, exceptional service, and a well-stocked bar with a great selection of New Zealand wines. The lounge’s comfortable seating and excellent shower facilities make it a favourite among travellers.
On the other hand, the Qantas Lounges worldwide are known for elegant design, gourmet dining options, and a wide array of beverages, including premium Australian wines. However, the Sydney Lounge has been criticised for being tired and outdated. The average rating is poor and is criticised for the furniture, cleaning, food options and lack of charging ports. Before the pandemic, the Qantas Sydney Business Lounge was said to be under construction; however, it was stopped due to the pandemic. The construction is said to have commenced in early 2024; however, stage one is aimed to be completed by early 2025. So I think my preference is to visit the Air New Zealand Lounge.

I am really looking forward to the freedom of ordering from the à la carte menu anytime. Whether I want a light snack or a full meal, the culinary team is prepared to meet my needs. The dishes are influenced by flavours from around the world, ensuring a flavourful experience even before I arrive at my destination.
The in-flight bar and lounge on the A380-800 are standout features. This unique space provides a range of high-quality spirits, champagne, and refreshments. It’s the perfect place to enjoy gourmet canapés and kick off my European adventure with a toast. This unique setting allows me to socialise and savour delicious bites surrounded by the clouds.
As I transfer to Doha, I’ll continue to enjoy Qatar Airways’ exceptional offerings. The transition to my flight to Edinburgh will be seamless, ensuring that I arrive refreshed and well-fed.
When travelling back from Rome to Sydney through Doha, I will board the advanced Airbus A350-900, equipped with innovative QSuites. These suites provide unmatched privacy, comfort, and an exceptional dining experience. With fully lie-flat beds, I can indulge in a luxurious meal while reclining comfortably, followed by a restful sleep.
The dine-on-demand service on the A350-900 is a game-changer (see the virual experience here) . It allows me to customise my dining experience based on my schedule so that I can enjoy a meal whenever possible. Each dish is carefully crafted to showcase the freshest ingredients and innovative culinary techniques. Every bite promises to be a highlight of my journey, from succulent starters to delectable desserts. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the meal, from the presentation to the flavours, making it a truly exceptional dining experience.
Qatar Airways’ Oryx One inflight entertainment system perfectly complements the dining experience. While indulging in gourmet cuisine, passengers can enjoy various movies, TV shows, music, and games for entertainment.
So often, the flight is considered a necessity to endure in order to reach the destination; however, on this trip, I aim to savour every moment of it. Qatar Airways provides luxury, comfort, and exceptional culinary experiences that guarantee my travels will be as memorable as the destinations I visit.
