SUPing Lake Windermere: Paddleboarding Through the Scenic Lake District

by Bronwyn

I’m really looking forward to my trip to the Lake District. One of the things I’m most excited about is the opportunity to go stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) on Lake Windermere. I started paddleboarding last year and I’ve really come to love the sport. It’s not only a great workout but also a fantastic way to meet people and enjoy the outdoors. Whenever I can, I paddleboard up at Forster or from Tunks Boat Ramp on Sydney Harbour, and now I’m eager to add Windermere to my list.

The idea of paddleboarding in the picturesque setting of the Lake District is incredibly appealing. Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, stretching over ten miles and surrounded by stunning landscapes that are just begging to be explored from the water. The thought of gliding across the lake’s serene surface, with the beautiful fells and forests providing a breathtaking backdrop, is enough to make any paddleboarder’s heart race with excitement.

If time periods to make this adventure a reality, I’m hoping to hire a paddleboard from Windermere Canoe Kayak SUP. They have a great reputation and offer a range of equipment and services that can cater to both beginners and more experienced paddleboardersWhether I’m looking to enjoy a relaxing paddle or explore some of the lake’s secluded coves and bays, it seems like the perfect place to start.

Being part of the She SUPs community has been a fantastic experience in my paddleboarding journey. It’s an empowering and supportive group that encourages women to embrace paddleboarding in a safe and enjoyable environment. Through She SUPs, I’ve had the privilege of meeting numerous remarkable women and sharing many unforgettable experiences. I aspire to bring the same sense of community and adventure to my paddleboarding sessions in the Lake District.

If I have enough time, I’m really interested in fitting in a paddleboarding session on Windermere. It’s a unique way to explore the Lake District, providing a different perspective than you get from hiking or driving. Additionally, there’s a sense of freedom being out on the water, moving at your own pace and taking in the natural beauty around you.

And then there’s the fun question: can I get Jacqui on the paddleboard? She has never tried it before, so it could be quite the adventure! Introducing her to paddleboarding on the stunning Lake Windermere could be a highlight of our trip. I can already picture us laughing, wobbling, and hopefully mastering the boards together.

I would love to try stand-up paddleboarding on Windermere during my trip. It would be a fun and refreshing addition to my itinerary, offering a nice balance to the more traditional sightseeing activities. Whether it’s paddling along the shoreline, spotting local wildlife, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the lake, I am eagerly looking forward to experiencing this beautiful part of the world from a paddleboard.
