I can’t wait for the amazing Scottish adventure my sister Jacqui and I have planned! One of the highlights for me is our visit to Eilean Donan Castle. This incredible castle sits on a small tidal island where three lochs come together. I’ve been dreaming about this place ever since Jacqui and were cataloging our parent’s Lilliput Lane collectibles. She had wanted t keep the model of the gardens at Eilean Donan Castle, and that really got me curious about learning more about it and seeing the real thing.

Eilean Donan Castle is a picturesque fortress that has appeared on many postcards and travel brochures. Its majestic stone walls and arched bridge set against the dramatic backdrop of the Scottish Highlands create a scene straight out of a fairy tale. The castle’s history is as rich as its appearance, dating back to the 13th century when it was established as a stronghold to protect against Viking invasions. Over the centuries, it has seen sieges, destruction, and reconstruction, with each layer adding to its fascinating story.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Eilean Donan is its role in popular culture. The castle has served as a dramatic film set for movies like “Highlander” and the James Bond film “The World Is Not Enough.” This cinematic history adds an extra layer of allure and excitement when exploring its historic rooms and corridors.

We plan to visit Eilean Donan Castle as a central point in our Scottish itinerary, connecting our explorations in Inverness and the Highlands with our journey to the Isle of Skye. This area holds personal significance for us, particularly as we visit places linked to the Mackay clan, our ancestors.

As we stroll through the grounds of Eilean Donan, I’m excited to absorb the atmosphere and envision the lives of those who once lived in this fortress. The breathtaking landscapes, fascinating history, and personal connections make this visit especially meaningful. And sharing this experience with Jacqui adds an extra layer of excitement and anticipation.

“I've come to believe that there exists in the universe something I call "The Physics of The Quest" — a force of nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity or momentum. And the rule of Quest Physics maybe goes like this: "If you are brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting (which can be anything from your house to your bitter old resentments) and set out on a truth-seeking journey (either externally or internally), and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue, and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher, and if you are prepared – most of all – to face (and forgive) some very difficult realities about yourself... then truth will not be withheld from you." Or so I've come to believe.”
